Event Summary | In this webinar we will explore the importance of poetry and rhyme in the YR/KS1 classroom. A range of resources and practical ideas for teaching will also be shared. |
||||||
Event description | The Reading Framework ((DfE July 2021) highlighted the importance of poetry and rhyme for young learners including for building shared, embedding new words in pupils' vocabulary and heightening pupils' awareness of sound through alliteration and rhyme. The importance of poetry is further emphasised in the Ofsted inspection handbook which states inspectors will consider whether stories, poems, rhymes and non-fiction are chosen for reading to develop pupils' vocabulary, language comprehension and love of reading. Poetry is a fantastic resource which can link to many topics - not just an occasional unit of teaching throughout the year. During the webinar we will share a range of rhymes and poems appropriate for use with young children and explore how they could be used in the classroom to develop oral language, vocabulary, reading and writing. We hope you will join us for what promises to be a useful and engaging session. |
